Accessible $10 Bills Coming in 2026

Accessible $10 Bills with Tactile Features Expected in 2026

Progress is underway toward making U.S. paper currency more accessible for people who are blind. On September 15, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) submitted its required semi-annual status report to the court, confirming that accessible currency is on track.

What’s Coming

The BEP reported that it expects to release $10 bills with raised tactile features in 2026. These tactile marks will allow people who are blind or have low vision to more easily identify paper currency by touch.

Background

This update follows a 2008 court ruling requiring the BEP to make U.S. paper currency accessible. Since then, advocates have been awaiting progress toward implementing tactile features, a change that will bring the U.S. in line with many other countries whose banknotes already include accessibility features.

Why It Matters

Accessible currency is a major step toward financial independence and equality for people who are blind. Having the ability to independently identify paper money helps ensure equal participation in everyday financial transactions.

Claire Stanley, J.D., Director of Advocacy and Governmental Affairs at the American Council of the Blind, shared the update, noting that the blindness community is “excited and anxious to see this development in the next calendar year.”

Bottom Line: After years of advocacy and legal action, accessible paper currency is finally on the horizon. The introduction of $10 bills with tactile features in 2026 marks a long-awaited milestone for financial inclusion.
