Join the “Make Your ABLE Dollars Work” Webinar
The ABLE National Resource Center will host “Make Your ABLE Dollars Work” on:
Thursday, August 13, 2026
12:00–1:00 p.m. Eastern Time
The webinar will feature Holly Zugay, senior financial education officer at the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency.
The session will focus on how people can use the investment options available through their ABLE accounts to work toward long-term financial goals.

Saving vs. Investing: What’s the Difference?
One of the topics covered during the webinar will be the difference between saving and investing.
Saving generally focuses on keeping money accessible and protecting it for shorter-term needs.
Investing involves putting money into investments with the goal of growing it over a longer period of time. Investing also involves risk, meaning the value of your investments can go up or down.
Understanding the difference can help you make more informed decisions about how to use the money in your ABLE account.
Why ABLE Accounts Matter for Financial Independence
At Penny Forward, we believe that financial security isn’t simply about having enough money to pay this month’s bills.
It’s also about having the ability to prepare for the future.
For people receiving means-tested benefits, building wealth can sometimes feel like an impossible goal because accumulating savings may affect eligibility for certain programs.
ABLE accounts can provide an opportunity to save and invest while maintaining eligibility for certain federal means-tested benefits, subject to the applicable rules.
That makes them an important financial planning tool for eligible people with disabilities.
Building savings through an ABLE account can help create resources for future qualified expenses and, over time, potentially provide greater financial flexibility and independence.
You Don’t Have to Be Receiving Benefits Today
ABLE accounts aren’t only relevant to people who currently receive SSI, SNAP, housing assistance, or Medicaid.
Even if you’re financially independent today, circumstances can change.
A future disability, employment change, or other unexpected event could affect your income and financial situation.
Learning about ABLE accounts now can help you understand whether they could become part of your financial plan in the future.
ABLE accounts can also offer tax advantages, making them worth learning about even if you aren’t currently receiving means-tested benefits.

Build Your Financial Future With Knowledge
An ABLE account isn’t a magic solution to financial insecurity, and investing always involves risk.
But understanding the tools available to you is an important first step toward making informed financial decisions.
At Penny Forward, we believe people who are blind or have low vision deserve the knowledge and resources necessary to build financial security on their own terms.
Learning how to save, invest, manage benefits, and plan for the future can help you make the most of every dollar you have.

The webinar is sponsored by Prudential.
